Hungarian government against setting conditions for EU recovery package
Hungary rejects any plans to set conditions for the European Union’s coronavirus recovery package because the governments of member states know best what measures are necessary, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office said on Thursday.
The Hungarian government’s position is clear: considering that a loan will be taken out jointly by EU member states instead of tapping contribution payments, “conditions must not be set”, Gergely Gulyás told a regular press briefing.

It is important that this resource should only be spent on restarting the economy, creating jobs and boosting growth, he said.
The national governments know best what specific measures are needed, he added.
The countries will undertake an obligation jointly and they will have the right to use the money the best way they believe, Gulyás said.

He added that currently positions greatly vary between the member states and so it is uncertain whether this weekend’s EU summit will be successful.
